Legal Radar Detector Use in Asia and the Middle East
Hurry! Vacation! You prepare to the big trip – visit your dream destination in the Middle East or in Asia. Everything is packed already, including your radar detector. You think you will use it in the rented car. And hard to believe but it is so: when you start your way either in a car or on a motorcycle with a radar detector in your suitcases, probably a wrong trip started immediately … Not everywhere, but in many countries. You want to use radar detector (including motorcycle radar) as at home. You do not want speeding, yet you think, better to use this useful device to avoid problems on the streets. However, it may be illegal. Radar guns are used by policemen and other authorized persons. Everything is well-known. Police use radar gun, and generate signals to clock and ticket motor vehicle speeders. Before the signals reach your car, detector alerts you and you decelerate the speed. The newly developed radar detectors are able to make alert on the basis of accepting random signals in 360 degree, that is, before police radar would “discover” the speeding motor vehicles. For speeding, motorists are punished with heavy fines, tickets, etc. You want to avoid this situation and use your device in the moving vehicle. The police regulate its use in different ways. Motorists can use detectors in the most frequented tourist destinations. Its use is legal in Jordan and in Saudi Arabia. The radar ordinance in the United Arab Emirates is simple: it is legal to use in cars and in motorcycles too.
Asia: Strict Regulations
Do not use detector without knowing the rules! There are controversial regulations covering the details: owning, using, selling or buying the device.
Citizens and visitors can use detector legally in India, Japan and Pakistan. It is banned in Malaysia: illegal to purchase, sell and use, or to possess it. The custom laws declared it prohibited. Detectors are very popular in Korea, especially the devices with built-in GPS are used legally. China is not only a transit market of high-tech devices – radar detectors are used legally in the country but jammers are illegal.
Marine radar use has special differentiation on the international and the national waters, so many details are regulated by international law.
The regulations may change at any time so before starting a trip in a foreign country it is advised to collect information about radar detector use.
